What is "Volksmarching"?

Volksmarching was actually established in Germany in the mid-1960s, and has since become a world-wide phenomenon. Volksmarches are non-competitive walks, often 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) or 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) in length, though longer distances (e.g., 20km, even 40km or 50km in some multi-day events) are offered. They are designed to be enjoyed at one's own pace, whether alone, with family, friends, or pets. The emphasis is on enjoying the scenery, local culture, and companionship. The core philosophy is "Fun, Fitness, and Friendship."
